Victoria Riva Palacio Nieto (Mexico-Spain)

She began her studies as a performer in contemporary dance at the Escuela Nacional de Danza Contemporánea (2000-1) in Mexico; she holds a Bachelor's degree in Performing Arts (with a specialization in Contemporary Dance) from The University of Leeds (England, 2001-4). She is a Research Teacher in dance at the Centro Nacional de Investigación, Documentación e Información de la Danza José Limón of the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes de México, where she designed the ENSOMÍA teaching methodology. She is a PhD candidate at the faculty of social and legal sciences of the Universidad de Córdoba with a research project on dance as a tool for social transformation.


She has participated in various international workshops, including the Choreographic Composition and Movement Analysis Workshop, The Loft Dance Studio, led by Anne van den Broeck and Ted Sttofer (Brussels, 2004). Additionally, she took part in the Contact Dance Workshop, Última vez, directed by Wim Vandekeybus (Brussels, 2004). She has participated in masterclasses in contemporary dance taught by renowned directors such as Lutz Foster or Rasmus Ölme.


Since 2012, she has been directing her own contemporary dance company. As a creator, she has been awarded scholarships by several Stimulus to Creation programs by Mexico on various occasions. In 2006, in the Young Creators category with the choreography “Expediente”; in 2009, in the Creators category with the project “Tres Colores”; in 2011, with “Receta de Invierno”, in the Creator with a Career category (a project that was supported for its production by the Centro de Formación y Producción Coreográfica de Morelos). From the same center, she obtained in 2008 the production for the staging of “Los Visitantes” as a result of the diploma in Choreographic Creation for Alternative Spaces. In 2007, she was supported by the Call for Project Promotion and Cultural Co-investments by the Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes de México to tour with the work “0,0 Laberintwo” and in 2018 by the program to disseminate the work “Reconstruyendo el Silencio”, a work for the prevention of child sexual violence; in 2023 for the production of the staging “Lelé: un viaje por el campo”.


As a teacher, she has been the dance coordinator of the Centro Morelense de las Artes in Mexico, where she promoted the creation of the Bachelor's Degree in Dance, has served as a teacher in the trainer of trainers diploma at the Centro Nacional de las Artes, has trained teachers from the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes in Mexico for teaching with a perspective of gender and inclusion, has given courses for women victims of violence and young people at risk of social exclusion.


She currently resides in Córdoba, Spain developing the coreogrfIA project selected by the call for aid for the modernization and innovation of cultural and creative industries by the Ministry of Culture and Sport of Spain. Likewise, she promotes her center for creation, training, inclusion, and production Colibrí danza y arte.
